Building Skills, Leading Change, Strengthening Community

County TAC Meetings

TAC members from all Knox County high schools meet once a month, at New Directions in the TAC Board Room, to connect, learn, and lead.
These county-wide meetings focus on:

  • Building leadership and prevention knowledge

  • Planning county events and youth-led initiatives

  • Collaborating with peers from other schools

Lunch is provided, and members receive a $10 stipend to help cover time and transportation.

School TAC Meetings

Following the county meeting, TAC Advisors visit local high schools to hold school-based TAC sessions during the school day.
These meetings focus on:

  • Reviewing information from the county-wide meeting

  • Designing school-specific prevention activities

  • Planning awareness campaigns and student engagement events

This is where ideas become action at the school level.

Summer TAC Planning Meetings

During the summer, TAC meets twice a month.
Summer meetings primarily focus on planning TAC’s largest youth-led event of the year—
Color for a Cause 5K Color Run.

Members take on leadership roles in planning, logistics, marketing, sponsorships, and volunteer coordination.

the CADCA National Leadership Conference

TAC members have the opportunity to apply and be selected to attend the CADCA National Leadership Conference. This national event brings together youth leaders from across the country to build prevention skills, learn from experts, and bring new ideas back to their communities.

Selected TAC members:

  • Represent Knox County youth at a national level

  • Learn from top prevention and public health leaders

  • Participate in youth leadership trainings and skill-building sessions

  • Collaborate with teens from other states

  • Bring home new strategies to strengthen TAC’s work in schools and communities

  • Present information learn to their peers

This is a powerful chance for TAC members to lead, grow, represent, and inspire.

Youth leave feeling equipped, empowered, and ready to lead real change—with practical strategies they can apply immediately in TAC meetings, school events, community campaigns, and the Youth-Driven Strategic Plan.

TAC Retreat

Each year, TAC hosts a Youth Leadership Retreat, designed and led by TAC members using data from the Annual TAC Membership Survey and the Peer Environmental Scan. The retreat builds skills, fosters connection, and prepares members for the year ahead.

TAC Advisors make connection a priority—ensuring members feel supported, valued, and ready to lead.

School-Based TAC Activities

TAC incorporates school-specific projects into their Youth-Driven Strategic Plan to address issues like underage alcohol use, dating violence, bullying, and peer pressure.

Examples include:

  • Interactive alcohol impairment course using drunk goggles

  • Healthy relationships campaigns

  • Peer awareness displays and lunchtime engagement booths

  • Social media school takeovers led by TAC members

These activities increase awareness and promote healthy, safe choices among high school students.

  • Share resources and engage in meaningful conversations

These efforts help raise awareness, strengthen community partnerships, and amplify youth leadership across Knox County.
